Ways you can help

Young Professionals Group: Urbanites

Urbanites is a young professional Charlotte group (ages 22-39) holding both social and community service opportunities. We build awareness about Urban Ministry Center and the ways the organization combats the conditions that affect the most vulnerable segment of our community, our homeless neighbors. Our aim is not to raise money or to find permanent volunteers. Instead, we want to bring forth the issues that confront the homeless population and highlight the impact that Urban Ministry Center can have in providing the framework in which our neighbors can tear down barriers to housing, sobriety, stability and other challenges.

We feel that it is critical for the future leaders and stewards of our community to be cognizant of our neighbors who often go unnoticed, unseen and unheard. Through learning about Urban Ministry Center and the neighbors it serves, we hope to build an understanding across Charlotte that homelessness – and its devastating effects on individuals and families – can be solved.

Our events include:

  • Soup Kitchen service on the fourth Sunday of every month, 9:30am-12:15pm (except November & December)
  • Hot Chocolate & Cookie distribution, Saturday, December 15, 10:00am
  • Unplugged event before HousingFest (Spring 2019)
