  INDIVIDUAL OPPORTUNITIES

  • Children under the age of 18 must be accompanied by an adult.
  •  All volunteers must be scheduled by the volunteer coordinators

  • Prospective volunteers, please do the following:

1.  Submit an online Individual Volunteer Form.  We will respond within one week.

2.  Attend an Orientation Session on the first Thursday of the month,  from 9 - 10 a.m. (Main Building) or 5 - 6 p.m. (Train Depot).  Contact the Volunteer Coordinators to register for Orientation.  Parking available onsite. 

Weekday Support    Monday – Friday 8:20am – 12:00pm; 12:00pm - 1:30pm;  or 1:20pm – 4:20pm

·        Front Desk or Upstairs Reception

·        Counselor

·        Personal Services Assistant (Shower and Laundry)

·        Van Driver

·        Mail Sorter (10:30 – 12:30)

·       Office & Staff Assistant (times flexible)

Weekend and Evening Support

·        Soup Kitchen (9:30 -12:30)

·        Mail and Office Organization (9:30 - 12:30)

Program Assistance

·        CommunityWorks945 (art, garden,soccer, etc.)

·        Homeless Helping Homeless

·        SABER (Substance Abuse Education and Recovery) Program

Education and Advocacy Leadership

·        Facilitate Educational Presentations

·        Become Part of the Urban Ministry Center's  Speaker’s Bureau

·        Do Advocacy Work with Homeless Helping Homeless

·        Participate in Servant Leadership School

Special Tasks – ‘Super Volunteer Positions’

·        Work on Special Events

·        Help with Fundraising

·        Coordinate Holiday Volunteers

·        Coordinate Group Visits

·        Drive Neighbors to Appointments

·        Pick-up or Deliver Supplies and Donations

·        Be on Facility Maintenance Team

 

GROUP OPPORTUNITIES

Bring your small group to the Urban Ministry Center to learn first-hand about homelessness in our community.  Please submit an online Group Volunteer Form to schedule your group in one of the following ways:

·    Participate in a Tour or Faces of Homelessness Talk

·    Provide and Serve Drinks to the Neighbors at Lunch

·       Make Sandwiches for the Daily Luncheon 

·       Work in Garden or on Cleanup Crew (kitchen, building or grounds)

·        Sponsor a Homelessness Educational Event at Your Place of Worship or Work

·        Volunteer to be a Room In the Inn Participating Organization

·        Bring Donations

·        Share a Meal and Conversation

SEASONAL OPPORTUNITIES

Because of the high volume of volunteer interest during the holidays, it is important for individuals and groups to complete a group or individual volunteer form several months in advance of the holiday to schedule.
