WHO PROVIDES OUR SERVICES?

THE URBAN MINISTRY STAFF

You can reach our staff members by email, phone, or at the Center: Meet our staff.

OUR VOLUNTEERS

Over 350 volunteers serve at the Urban Ministry Center on a regular basis to provide services to the poor. Some serve in the soup kitchen, some serve as desk ministers (answering phones, giving out mail, signing up neighbors for appointments), some serve as counselors. Others lead our upper room worship service, drive our van to social service agencies, handyman jobs around the center and data entry services. We also host many work groups, youth groups, and other volunteer groups for special projects throughout the year. If you'd like to learn more about joining us, click here.

OUR BOARD OF TRUSTEES

The Urban Ministry Center is a not-for-profit organization, and our Board of Trustees is comprised of diverse group of citizen leaders from business, faith-based groups, and the wider community. The UMC Board meets at the Center bi-monthly (January, March, May, July, September, November) on the second Thursday at 4:00 pm. Meet our Board!

ROOM IN THE INN CONGREGATIONS AND COLLEGES

100 congregations and colleges work together to provide congregation-based winter shelter to the neighbors through our Room in the Inn program. Volunteer duties range from transportation to and from the center, meal preparers, activity coordinators, overnight supervisors and laundry ministers. Each congregation has a coordinator that acts as a liaison between the Center and their congregation. Our last estimate was that over 5,000 volunteers participate in this program. We are aware of no other homeless service program in our community that enlists so many volunteers. Check out our participating congregations and colleges.

OUR COMMUNITY PARTNERS

Throughout the community, you will find organizations and individuals who partner with the Urban Ministry Center and our programs. Recent examples include Second Harvest Food Bank, Kathy Izard and the Garden Angels, The University of North Carolina at Charlotte, Davidson College, Central Piedmont Community College, The Public Library of Charlotte and Mecklenburg County, Charlotte Community Singers, Chamber Music at Saint Peter's, Trinity Episcopal School, Mecklenburg County's Social Services Department, Mecklenburg Recycling and Waste Reduction Programs and many others. Please contact us if you have an idea or initiative you would like to work on with us.
