Voices of Love Choir
The "Voices of Love" is a choir devoted to bringing together people from the homeless community and volunteers to sing inspirational works of both a traditional and contemporary nature. The choir aims to help homeless members of our community with services and relationships that may support them in their path out of homelessness, bring them joy and utilize skills that may have been dormant in recent years and create opportunities for homeless and non-homeless people to interact, putting a face on homelessness that few in the Charlotte community have experienced.
The choir has been meeting twice a week and performing since March 2008. We typically perform old-time spirituals and contemporary gospel songs along with keyboard accompaniment. The choir is comprised of anywhere from 6 - 20 men and women -- depending on the day. We have performed in church settings, at the Wachovia Atrium, in schools, and even at a wedding. We welcome all neighbors of the Urban Ministry Center as well as volunteers from the community to join us on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 12:30.
