Room In The Inn Begins Seventh Year
The Urban Ministry-sponsored winter shelter, Room In The Inn, begins its seventh season December 1 in providing accomodations through March 31 in area congregations and schools for approximately 100 men, women and children each night.

This year the number of sites offerign shelter - usually once a week - for about 12 people has increased from 68 to 73.

In a late October orientation session, Room In The Inn Director Steve Carpenter stressed to volunteers the importance of "taking the time to give of yourselves" rather than a focus on giving material things.

This year marks greater volunteer assistance with the nightly check-in process. Central Piedmont Community College and A Mighty Fortress Lutheran Church eac povide volunteers one night a week.

Last year, the Room In The Inn Program served 896 homeless neighbors, providing 11,880 beds, involving over 5,100 volunteers.
